ELIZABETH MAE CREATIVE

The Art & Design of Waves

A sense of accomplishment and a sigh of relief swelled up inside me as I sat there and looked at my completed book. All of the long hard hours, blood, sweat, and tears drifted away as if a forgotten memory. I had nothing more to do—my book was finished! I was now a self published author/artist. What to do now that my big project was done? SLEEP. Sleep the weariness away.

 . . .

The main point of my project was to choose a natural phenomenon and develop it as abstractly as I could through 10 projects. The phenomena that I chose to develop was a wave.

The amount of creativity, stress, and overall work that went into this book was thankfully divided over my 15 week semester. My designs and the written content are not only based on a literal ocean wave, but also on the full extended definition of wave. (If you would like to read the definition before continuing, here it is: wave)

In the next group of photos you can see how I used a technique called a French Fold for the pages. This is where you print on one side of a sheet of paper and then fold it in half so that the printed side faces out and then bind the edges opposite the folds together.  You can also see how choosing to bind my book with a Perfect Bound soft cover lends itself to flipping through the book in a wave-like fashion!

I love this book--from the cool designs, to the beautifully folded pages, right down to the flexible cover. :) Looks like you worked really hard. Can you bring it to PA? Livi and I want to see it. Молодец!

Love you!

Hello, I'm Elizabeth!

Hello, I'm Elizabeth!

ABOUT ME

All through high school and college I poured through design magazines and began to envision having my own creative business. Studying graphic design at the Academy of Art University (AAU) was the perfect choice for me. Graphic design involves both my Math skills and my carefree artistic skills. My designs solve problems. They communicate specific messages of beauty and values and it is this purpose in my work that makes me love what I do!
